Southern States Forwarding, Inc.

Company History

SSF was founded by Benno Friedman in 1960. It started as a Louisiana corporation with headquarters at the World Trade Center in New Orleans, LA. Mr. John Kornfeld ran the New Orleans office, & Mr. John Ray ran the Gulfport, MS office.

The principal cargo has been baled cotton for export, but SSF has evolved through the years. We were the agents for ACL and APL. Management realized the company would be better off if the carriers worked for us instead of our being their agent, so we became forwarders of ocean and air freight.

In 1984, the corporation moved its headquarters from New Orleans to Memphis, and became a Tennessee corporation. Mr. Lloyd Estes Jr. was president during the move. In 1992, after 23 years with SSF, Mr. Estes retired and soon after, Bruce Friedman took over, purchasing the corporation from his father, Benno Friedman.

Bruce Friedman brought a Customs House Brokerage license to the company along with computerization. Most of the software used is programmed in house, and can be changed to adapt to our customers' ever-changing needs.
